Choosing the Right Tires for Your ATV

When selecting new ATV tires, consider the terrain you’ll be riding on. Different tire types are designed for specific conditions such as mud, sand, or rocky surfaces. For muddy terrains, opt for tires with deep treads that provide better traction. If you plan to ride on hard-packed trails, a smoother tread design will offer more stability and control.
Proper sizing is also crucial. Check your rims and the manufacturer’s recommendations for size compatibility. Tires that are too large or too small can affect performance and safety. Always measure the current tires or consult the owner’s manual for the correct specifications.
Removing Old Tires from Rims
Start by deflating the old tires completely. Use a valve core tool to remove the valve stem core, allowing all air to escape. This step is essential for making the removal process easier and safer. Once deflated, use a bead breaker tool to loosen the tire bead from the rim. Work your way around the tire, applying even pressure to avoid damaging the rim.
After breaking the bead, use tire levers to pry the tire off the rim. Insert the lever between the tire and the rim, and push down to lift the tire over the edge. You may need to use multiple levers to work the tire off completely. Be cautious of sharp edges on the rim during this process.
Installing New Tires on Rims
Before installing new tires, inspect your rims for any signs of damage or corrosion. Clean them thoroughly to ensure a good seal between the tire and the rim. Apply a thin layer of tire lubricant along the rim’s edge to help the tire slide into place during installation.

Position the new tire over the rim, aligning the valve stem hole with the valve stem on the rim. Begin pushing one side of the tire onto the rim. Use tire levers if necessary, but be gentle to prevent damaging the tire or rim. Once one side is fully seated, repeat the process for the opposite side.
Inflate the tire gradually to the recommended pressure. Monitor the bead seating as you inflate. If you notice any gaps or unevenness, deflate and reposition the tire before reinflating. Once properly inflated, check for leaks by applying soapy water around the bead; bubbles indicate air escaping.
Finally, ensure all tires are mounted securely and balanced. Proper balancing reduces vibrations during rides and enhances handling. If you’re unsure about balancing, take your ATV to a professional for assistance. Using quality equipment like Yanlun Wheels can make a significant difference in performance and durability.
